Claire & Jenna Take on The City

Last weekend, my older sister, Claire and her best friend, Jenna, flew up to New York to spend a few days with us. Even though I cannot really comprehend how their visit has already come and gone (time, won’t you just slow down, even a little?) I’m so excited to share some of the photos from their time in the city. And since we practically walked them to death to see as many sights as we could squeeze in a day, there are BUNCH of pics to share.

Summer in The North Fork

Bright and early last Sunday morning, Derek and I set out to spend the day cruising around several little towns nestled in the north end of Long Island, NY. It didn’t take long before this area, called The North Fork, stole both our hearts. We instantly fell in love with so many things about this delightful place. The wide, open spaces. The acres upon acres of farmland. The slower, small-town pace in everyone’s steps. Oh, and the hospitality all the locals put forth. For a moment there, I thought we had somehow transported ourselves back to North Carolina!

Eating Our Way Through NYC: Part II

Umm, if there is one thing we know how to do, it’s how to sniff out the best food joints here in New York. I know you guys already know we’re BIG believers in brunch, and while we do count down to Saturdays when we can go on a brunching spree, don’t get us wrong – that’s not all we’re about. As twisted as this might sound, I just have to say it: one of my favorite things about living in this big ole city is ALL the food!

Exploring the New York Botanical Gardens

It’s hard to believe it has now been a month since Derek and I hopped on the train to the Bronx to explore the New York Botanical Gardens. I’ve been meaning to share these photos for weeks now! But then again, June kind of came and went. We had discovered the beauty of the botanical gardens in Brooklyn when Laurel was here back in April, but hadn’t had time to explore the gardens in Manhattan.

Snippets of the Weekend

Ah, the extra long weekend was so nice, wasn’t it!? I hope you had as a relaxing July 4th as we did. It was a surprisingly delightful change to not have any plans for the weekend. No agenda whatsoever, we just took the three days off as they came and simply went with the flow. While the majority of New Yorkers escape the city during July 4th, it’s one of our favorite weekends to stay put. Simply for that reason alone, it feels as if no one is here!

Rachel in The City

The other weekend, Rachel flew up to see us. She and I had been planning her trip up ever since a couple months ago, and just like with anything else, time passed with its usual lighting speed, and within a blink of an eye, she had landed in the city! The 48 hours she was here of course flew by, but man did we have a fun time. We walked. We ate. We walked some more. Of course ate some more. I couldn’t have asked for a better visit. I just wish it hadn’t of passed by so quickly!
