Brooklyn Kite Festival

Last Saturday was a beautiful one. I had read about the kite festival at Brooklyn Bridge Park a couple of months ago, and immediately marked the date on my calendar. I knew the scene would be captivating, but just as many other things in New York, this event was even more magical than expected. Colorful kites of all shapes and sizes soaring high above the Manhattan skyline, it sure was a sight to see.

So Long, Summer

Dear Summer,

Thank you for all the wonderful goodness you provided this year. Ah, where do I even begin? Cool morning breezes, perfect for early strolls through the local farmers markets. Warm rays of sunshine shining down on the tips of my shoulders. The sweet smells of fresh cut flowers. The hot-weather excuses for lots and lots of ice-cream intake (I’m talking about you, Ample Hills!) Rooftop happy-hours. Backyard brunches. Mini getaways from the city grind. The bold hues of golden color firing over the skyline as the sun sets for the day. I’m telling you, I could keep this listing going on and on.

Manhattan Yacht Club

My brain has officially entered panic mode. Labor Day is only a few days away, which means summer is rapidly coming to a close. And that meant waking up at 4:45am in order to catch the first train eastern bound. Although we were super stoked to explore this part of Long Island, waking up that early is never easy. It practically took guzzling down my body weight in iced coffee before my brain entered functioning mode.

New York Lately

Well, August has officially slipped through my finger tips. I keep asking myself how it’s already [basically] the 9th month out of the year, but it really shouldn’t be such a shocker. Time always finds a way to fly. Since the weeks of summer keep zipping by, I figured it was only fitting for a new “Life Lately” post. So, without further ado, here is a short recap of what’s been going on in New York…

Painting in Central Park

For the longest time, Derek and I had been on the hunt for a Central Park painting class. Heck, we even made it an item on our NYC Bucket List. You’d think a painting class in the park – especially the park being the infamous Central Park – wouldn’t be at all hard to find. Yet, the few we came across were basically asking an arm and a leg for the entry fee. That just wasn’t about to happen. So, we decided to compromise.
