Parentals Take on New York City

You know when your parents come to visit you in the city — especially when your Dad hasn’t been to New York since the 70’s (!!!) — you’ve got to show them the best time. Well, with all the smiles, laughter, and sore feet that were brought on last weekend, I think it’s safe to say Derek and I did just that. I’ll skip the time-passes-too-fast rant, and jump right to the part of I’m still trying to wrap my head around the fact their visit has already come and gone. Thankfully, we have an abundance of photos to relive their visit, over and over again.

Brunch at Fort Defiance

One of the many reasons Derek and I love Red Hook is the deserted feeling that tends to overcome our minds when exploring this Brooklyn neighborhood. There is hardly any traffic, let alone honking. The streets are quiet and empty. And the best part: this area isn’t accessible by subway, which is the main reason why there aren’t mobs of people flooding the sidewalks. So Long, Summer

Dear Summer,

Thank you for all the wonderful goodness you provided this year. Ah, where do I even begin? Cool morning breezes, perfect for early strolls through the local farmers markets. Warm rays of sunshine shining down on the tips of my shoulders. The sweet smells of fresh cut flowers. The hot-weather excuses for lots and lots of ice-cream intake (I’m talking about you, Ample Hills!) Rooftop happy-hours. Backyard brunches. Mini getaways from the city grind. The bold hues of golden color firing over the skyline as the sun sets for the day. I’m telling you, I could keep this listing going on and on.

New York Lately

Hello, September. Well, more like the middle of September, if we’re being technical. Really, where does the time go? Since fall is literally right around the corner – less than ten days away to be exact! – Derek and I have been doing our best to squeeze in as many last-minute summer shenanigans as possible. Rooftop happy-hours. Backyard dinners. Summer cocktails. And of course ice cream. Lots and lots of ice cream. But, as the days begin to get shorter, and that little nip sporadically slices the air, I think I’m ready to welcome fall with open arms.

City Guides: Chelsea

The neighborhood of Chelsea is an eclectic gem in New York. From the infamous Highline and Chelsea Market, to all the delicious eateries, bars, and cafes, I don’t think one could really become bored in this area of the city. Not to mention all the things to do – think art galleries, golfing on the water, trapezing on rooftops, and market hopping. You name it, Chelsea has it, which is why that’s so many people love it so. Us included!

New York Lately

Well, August has officially slipped through my finger tips. I keep asking myself how it’s already [basically] the 9th month out of the year, but it really shouldn’t be such a shocker. Time always finds a way to fly. Since the weeks of summer keep zipping by, I figured it was only fitting for a new “Life Lately” post. So, without further ado, here is a short recap of what’s been going on in New York…
