Ah, the infamous Lombard Street. It’s practically on everybody’s bucket-list when visiting San Francisco for the first time. And with good reason. I mean, it has been claimed to be “the most crooked street in the world.” Although, if we’re being technical, that’s a lie…
Vermont Street over in Potrero Hill is actually even curvier than Lombard Street!! Don’t believe me?! It’s true!
Okay, okay, back to Lombard. You want to know what’s even better than driving [extremely slow] down the eight hairpin turns?!
RUNNING DOWN THEM!!!!
That’s exactly what we did when Grace was visiting not too long ago. “How?” you might be thinking. Well yes, this did mean having an early wake up call. But totally worth. To be able to race down the curves on foot — priceless!
We literally had the entire street to ourselves!
Side note: I would HATE to have a house on Lombard. It wasn’t even five minutes after we reached the base of Leavenworth Street that cars were already starting to line up waiting to take their turn. And this was at 7:30am! Can you imagine looking out your windows and seeing cars creeping past the curves 24/7!? Talk about some lack of privacy!
Once we finished having our dose of “touristy” fun, we continued strolling through the neighborhood, soaking up the gorgeous morning light.
This time of day is my absolute favorite. I love how quiet the streets are. Since the city hasn’t quite woken up yet from the night before, everything seems so calm and tranquil.
Not to mention how lovely the skyline looks as the sun rises above it.
San Francisco, you truly are a beauty. I love falling in love with you over and over again.
