So far, Madrid has been a dream.
While we’ve only been here a few days, Derek and I have quickly fallen in love with this mesmerizing city. Colorful streets. Friendly people. Delicious food. We simply cannot get enough.
Although, our feet might disagree. According to the screaming aches, they’re super sore. I don’t think they’re too fond of the 10-miler days we’ve been encountering. I feel bad for them, I do, but I think we’re both still in the g0-go-go mode our minds were always set to living in New York City. With so much waiting to be discovered in this beautiful city, there is just no time to rest. Our feet will simply have to adjust.
Spring has sprung here in Madrid. Tables and chairs are set up outside, and the outdoor seating is luring crowds in by the bunches. No matter the time of day, you can bet you’ll see people mingling outside, sipping on sangria.
Which only means one thing: this is my kind of city!
Oh, and the shops. Let me just tell you about the shops.
There are SO many eclectic stores intertwined throughout these winding streets. I absolutely love them all. Despite the fact I can’t really buy anything due to a lack of space with our backpacks, these shops are amazing for inspiration.
And the wall art. There is so much of it and I LOVE it.
We’ve found the perfect afternoon pick-me-up: a scoop of gelato and a cafe latte. YUM.
My eyes have officially become hypnotized with the architecture. Absolutely stunning. I’m pretty sure I’ve become that tourist that I used to despise in NYC. You know, the one that walks reallllly slow down the sidewalk, mouth wide open, just gazing up above.
Yep, that’s me now.
Due to the fact that I’m a self-proclaimed fruit-aholic, my taste buds have pretty much been in a constant party mode since we arrived. So much freshness all around. We’ve loved casually stopping by the markets to pick up crates of strawberries. The perfect snack for sight-seeing.
Another note — I just love how relaxed everyone seems to be here.
It’s like, “Oh, don’t mind me — I’m just enjoying my book here in the middle of the street. You can walk around.”
Talk about awesomeness.
Just look at those colors…
Even in the rain, this city is dreamy.
Madrid has truly freed our minds from worry.
I mean, Derek was getting his “crow” pose on in the middle of the street. And totally nailed it.
Oh, and I’ve also been blown away from so many of the restaurants’ interior design.
1. Swings as chairs.
2. A giant sandbox inside.
See what I mean!? So cool!
Let’s not forget about the food itself.
So thankful for the constant walking, or else my waist might be in trouble.
Yes, that is a hugeeeee pile of chips.
I was licking my lips as Derek snapped this pic.
Colorful building + small flower market = my happy place.
We stumbled upon so many adorable (and incredible!) vintage shops. All the antiques just spilt out onto the sidewalks, which made it even more charming.
Ah, Madrid. You sure are a beaut. And to think we’ve only known each other for a couple of days. Thank you for showing us a preview of your magic, as well as gracing us with beau-ti-ful weather. Can’t wait to see what else you have in store!
