Goodbye, Kate Spade

1

Well, last Friday was a major milestone for me. It marked my last day at Kate Spade.

I remember walking into the office that morning with a bit of a pit in my stomach. So many “last moments” flooding my mind. The last time walking through the office doors. The last time swiping in. The last day at my very own desk. The last day catching up on the night before with my team. Ah, you get the idea. To describe these moments as bittersweet would be an extreme understatement.

The majority of the day was spent making my way around the various departments saying my goodbyes. That was an even weirder feeling. So many emotions with every farewell hug. There were so many instances were I had to pull the reigns on the tears that were about to trickle down my cheeks.

You see, I can still vividly remember the first time walking through the threshold to the Kate Spade world. Looking back, I was probably such a nervous wreck. There I was, a naive twenty-something-year-old from a small town in North Carolina, fresh out of college, with big dreams of “making it” in New York City. I had no idea what to even expect.Little did I know then this place would soon become my home away from home for the next two years.

I will always be grateful for my time at Kate Spade. Having the opportunity to work alongside such talented, creative, and passionate people was such an incredible honor, and one I will never forget.

I feel so fortunate to have made such true friendships during my time at this company. I know it’s not everywhere that you fall in love with so many of your coworkers, but Kate Spade was different. It was here I met some of my best friends in New York, and I look forward to keeping those friendships alive and strong, despite my relocation.

Quitting my first job — especially at a company I absolutely adored — was by no means easy. Quite frankly, it was scary as hell. And still is. It’s not like you read “quit your job without having another one lined up” in any career guidebook.  But, as I learned at Kate Spade, life is best spent living an interesting one.

And, in this case, I’ve got to let adventure lead the way.
