Well, as you can see from the title of the post, we’re moving!! I’ve kept this secret bottled up inside for way too long, so you have no idea how good it feels to share it all with you. Ah! I seriously feel like I’ve floated to cloud nine now that the cat’s out of the bag.
The time has come for us to say goodbye to this beautiful city and begin a new chapter. Yep, we’re officially trading the east coast for the west and heading out to San Francisco! As bittersweet as it is to say goodbye to our beloved New York, Derek and I both are super excited to see where life out west will take us. Ever since our first visit to San Fran a few years back, we’ve found ourselves daydreaming time and time again about living on the California coast. Plus, it’s the perfect gateway for exploring all of the west.
It’s no secret — New York stole our hearts years ago and will always be a special place to us. Yet, we knew when we first moved up north that this wouldn’t be our “forever” home. For that reason, we did everything we could these last few years exploring all the many enchantments of this city. Hence, the bucket list. And because we’ve practically crossed everything thing off, we solemnly believe now is the time to say goodbye.
This cross-country move hasn’t really felt real until this past week. With less than two weeks left in Brooklyn, we’ve finally begun starting the [dreaded] process of packing. De-cluttering. Selling furniture. Craiglisting pretty much everything. You know the drill. You should see our apartment. Talk about a hot mess. Who ever knew you could fit so much stuff into a teeny-tiny 500-square-foot place.
The next week will definitely be one emotional rollercoaster. From saying our goodbyes to coworkers and friends, to leaving the place that has served as our home for the last three years, nothing about this will be easy. But we’re trying our hardest to focus on what all is to come, which is about to be SO much change. And I’m talking change with a capital “C!”
See, we won’t officially be moving out to SF just yet. Before heading out to west, we’ve decided to take advantage of this transition to travel and take some time to explore more of this big ole world. For years, the one adventure that has been rippling through our minds has been to take an extensive backpacking trip throughout Europe. So, after more than a year of sacrificing and a whole lot of saving, we’re turning that dream into a reality. Yep, we’re pretty much trading our comfy daily routines in for a more nomadic lifestyle — and I couldn’t be more excited for this new journey. You can rest assured knowing I’ll be sharing a lot more about this traveling endeavor in the coming weeks.
Ah, 2016 — this will definitely be the year of adventure. No doubt about it. But, as I’ve always believed, life is truly too short — and way too precious — to not take risks. Because with risks come change. And with change comes growth. I know some people might not understand this decision. Some might think we’re flat out crazy. But, at the end of the day, the one question we kept asking ourselves over and over again was, “if not now…when?” And I can’t tell you enough how liberating all of this feels!
While our days in New York are now close to be over, we cannot help but look forward to all that’s ahead. And I hope you will follow along for the ride!
Cheers to new beginnings!
