City Guides: Upper West Side

UWS City Guide Title Page

The Upper West Side is definitely one of New York City’s greatest gems, and one of our favorite areas to explore. There is just so much to see and do (not to mention to eat!) No matter your age, I can guarantee you will find something that suits your fancy in this neighborhood. With the Hudson River on one side, Central Park on the other, and Lincoln Center in between, well, I don’t really know how a location can get much better! Be sure to show up to this area hungry, because it would be quite shameful to not let your tastebuds experience some of the best bites below (ahem, Levain Bakery!)

Eats – Sitdowns:

The Smith
(You’ve got to try the vanilla bean french toast. Be warned: HUGE portions!)
1900 Broadway (212) 496-5700

Oh, and there is also a secret photo-booth downstairs!

The Hummus Place
305 Amsterdam Avenue (212) 799-3335

Luke’s Lobster
(Hands down, best lobster roll in NYC. So good, it reminds me of here!)
426 Amsterdam Avenue (212) 877-8800

Jacob’s Pickles
509 Amsterdam Avenue (212) 470-5566

Eats – Quickbites:

LeVain Bakery
(The best cookies you’ll ever taste! Don’t let the line out the door scare you. Worth every second!)
167 W 74th Street (212) 874-6080

Treat House
(The cutest mini-sized rice-crispy treats!)
452 Amsterdam Avenue (212) 799-7779

Things to Do:

Check out all the local produce/flowers at the Greenmarket.
(Entrance at 79th Street)

Attend a ballet at Lincoln Center.
(Remember here and here!?)

Take in beautiful art at The Juilliard School.
(From music, film, drama, and ballet – this school has it all, and there are so many free events!)

Listen to some of the best opera in the world at the Metropolitan Opera.
(Something about this building is so magical at night!)

Rent & ride bikes all around (and across!) the George Washington Bridge.

There is even the sweetest looking red lighthouse on one of the trails along the water!

Don’t Miss Out On:

The American Museum of Natural History

New York Fashion Week
(During February and September.)

Columbia University
(Such a beautiful campus to visit & walk around!)

Riverside Park
(Perfect place for a picnic! Although, it was way too cold out when we explored this area in the winter.)

If you have the time, be sure to take the time to just walk & explore.

The Upper West Side is such a beautiful area of New York, and holds so many enchantments!
