Oh, New Year’s Eve!
Running in this midnight run really was such an amazing way to start off 2015. As soon as the clock struck midnight, fireworks burst into the air, literally lighting up the entire sky with beams of radiant color. It was the perfect bolt of energy needed running in the frigid cold. And I mean brutally cold! While it took about ten minutes before my ice-cubed feet thawed out, it was all worth it running along such enthusiastic people lining the sidewalks, cheering you on.
By the time we circled around the loop connecting the east side of Central Park to the west, sparkling apple cider was awaiting us at mile two. Derek and I couldn’t help but take a second to briefly stop and take in the beautiful skyline facing us, as we toasted to the new year.
I’ve had the opportunity to run in many races these last couple of years, but there was something so different about this one. As we ran along, so close to the finish line that I could hear the crowd chanting, I felt not only motivated by my surrounding, but also inspired. It was during that moment that flashbacks of 2014 rippled through my mind. Moving to New York, starting my first job, the wedding, and so many more. This year was such a monumental one. That said, I am so thankful to have another year ahead of me in the city, and so excited to see what adventures this year will bring forth.
Here’s to 2015!
